Wonderful® Halos® are mandarins; however, while every Halo is a mandarin, not every mandarin can be a Halo. That’s because to earn their halos, every fruit must meet three requirements—easy to peel, seedless, and super sweet. Moreover, Halos are non-GMO (non-genetically modified), and just the right size for kids’ hands. For snacking, kids’ lunch boxes, and families on the go, they’re nature’s perfect treat. Mandarins are an easy-peel citrus variety. There are many types and subtypes of mandarins in the world, which grow in a number of places from California to Australia, Spain, Morocco, South Africa, Chile and Peru.

Halos include three mandarin varieties: Clementines, W. Murcott Afourers and Tangos.

From November through May, Halos are grown in California, in the rich, fertile soil of the San Joaquin Valley, where abundant sunshine makes them sweet and delicious. From August to October, Halos from the Southern Hemisphere are available in limited markets.

To keep your Halos delicious and juicy, store them in the refrigerator. They’ll stay sweet and ready to eat for up to two weeks.

The reason most citrus fruits contain seeds is because the flowers on the trees are pollinated by bees. However, we’re able to make Halos seedless by keeping bees away, either by protecting the trees with nets or by situating our groves far from where the bees live (forage). We also use traditional plant breeding techniques to minimize the number of seeds in our mandarins. We regularly test our fruit for seeds, but occasionally a seed or two will slip by.

The name “Halos” was inspired by the Pure Goodness of the product. Nature’s perfect snack, Halos are portable, convenient and healthy. And as wonderful as they are, the “Wonderful” in our name actually refers to the Wonderful family of brands, which includes other healthy products like Wonderful Pistachios and POM Wonderful.

California farmers use a wide range of water resources to irrigate their crops. Some of this water is naturally generated from oil production. Rather than allowing this “produced water” to go to waste, it is carefully treated, tested and approved for agricultural use, highly regulated, and well within safe drinking water standards.
